Our annual poverty summit is going to take place on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Cathedral Church of St. Mark, Episcopal, located at 231 E. 100 South. The agenda will include opening remarks by Represenative Rebecca Chavez Houck at 9:00 AM and the following presentations and discussions:
1) UTA, Clean Air and Affordable Fares: featuring Representative Joel Briscoe and representatives from Breathe Utah and the Utah Transit Authority. This discussion will run from 9:30 to 10:20 AM.
2) Presentation of the Joe Duke-Rosati “Hellraiser” Award to Art Sutherland: Art has been a tireless volunteer for the Coaltion of Religious Communities. If you know Art please join us in recognizing his advocacy efforts on behalf of low income Utahns.
3) Impact of Federal Budget Cuts: Learn more about how sequestration impacts low income housing and other programs in Utah, current federal budget proposals, and what you can do about it. This discussion will run from 10:40 to 11:30 AM.
4) Medicaid expansion strategy session: What can be done before the end of the year, at the grassroots level, to persuade Governor Herbert and legislators to opt into the Medicaid expansion? This strategy session will run from 11:30 AM until noon and will be followed by lunch.
